Marijuana Grow-Ops

The OACIQ Syndic has investigated the actions of real estate brokers in transactions involving properties used for marijuana grow operations. These inquiries, conducted simultaneously with police investigations, have led to the filing of complaints before the Discipline Committee. 

Apart from the risk of explosion due to solvents used in making marijuana oil, or fires caused by electrical malfunctions, a high rate of humidity maintained over long periods is the main cause of damage to a building. High humidity rates cause building materials to rot and moulds to proliferate.

Many agents have recently been faced with difficult situations where they suddenly found out that a property concerned in a brokerage contract or a promise to purchase (in progress or accepted) had been used as a marijuana growing operation. Here are the ACAIQ’s recommendations in such cases.

Held in Boucherville on November 22 under the theme “Don’t be fooled” and hailed by Paul Girard, Associate Deputy Minister at the Ministry of Public Safety, in his opening address, the ACAIQ seminar on marijuana grow operations was a resounding success.
