Brossard, August 27, 2024 – The Organisme d’autoréglementation du courtage immobilier du Québec (OACIQ) maintains that the initiatives announced jointly by Labour Minister Jean Boulet, the Régie du bâtiment du Québec (RBQ) and the Garantie Construction Résidentielle (GCR) will provide better protection for buyers of new homes.

Stepping up GCR's new construction inspection program will actively help protect consumers, since non-compliances can be identified and remedied more quickly and effectively. Since the purchase of a property is one of the most important investments in a person's life, it will be safer for consumers who know that most construction issues have been detected when it is still possible to remedy them, and not when their consequences appear, sometimes many years later.

“This initiative will not only strengthen public protection, but will also help ensure the sustainability of the homes built and prevent problems for buyers and sellers,” says OACIQ President and CEO Nadine Lindsay.

As for the bill announced by the Minister, the OACIQ supports his desire to modernize the construction industry and continuously improve inspections.
