Brossard, March 31, 2025 — The Organisme d’autoréglementation du courtage immobilier du Québec (OACIQ) launches the first edition of Real Estate Literacy Month, which will be held from April 1 to 30, 2025.

A Léger Marketing survey conducted in May 2024 revealed that almost 58% of Quebecers believe they have poor knowledge of real estate. In response to this, the aim of the Real Estate Literacy Month is to better inform consumers about their real estate transactions, in accordance with the OACIQ’s public protection mission. An informed client is a protected client.

This event is an opportunity for anyone who is directly or indirectly interested in real estate to take part in educational and informative activities, without the need of having a purchase or sale transaction in progress. The OACIQ is offering a series of free online activities, including podcasts, interviews with experts, practical content, as well as the opportunity to put questions to the virtual agent Élise.

Entirely online and free, the Real Estate Literacy Month 2025 is designed to be accessible to everyone. The topics covered include:

  • Homeownership and first-time homebuyers
  • Preparing a budget for a real estate transaction
  • Transactions involving vulnerable people
  • Protecting the interests of the person represented by a real estate broker
  • Latent defects and building inspection
  • New co-ownership by-law
  • Tools available to buyers and sellers
  • Interactive quiz on real estate literacy

Buying or selling a home is an important transaction in a person's life. The Real Estate Literacy Month is a valuable opportunity to learn more about real estate transactions.
