Brossard, Octobre 03, 2024 The artificial intelligence approach advocated by the Organisme d’autoréglementation du courtage immobilier du Québec (OACIQ) is attracting attention in the European real estate sector.

As the only real estate brokerage regulator outside the European Union invited to the annual conference of the Institut Professionnel des Agents Immobiliers (IPI), held in Belgium last September, the OACIQ was able to present its vision and experience regarding the framework and implementation of artificial intelligence before the main European real estate brokerage stakeholders.

The IPI brought together real estate experts from several European Union countries to discuss the challenges and opportunities facing the industry.

OACIQ leadership in AI noted

During the panel discussion on “La révolution digitale: la fin ou le début d’une nouvelle ère?”, OACIQ President and CEO Nadine Lindsay shared the OACIQ's experience in incorporating artificial intelligence into regulatory practices. Ms. Lindsay emphasized that ‘’adopting artificial intelligence is essential, but it must be done ethically and responsibly, while ensuring that humans are kept at the core of professional interactions.  It is the way we implemented AI at the OACIQ that makes us stand out–an inclusive and sequential approach that propels us into a learning organization.”

Ms. Lindsay also shed light on Élise, the first virtual conversational agent launched by a real estate regulator in Canada.  Since its launch, Élise has answered more than 115,000 questions with an accuracy rate of 99.9%, showing the potential of new technologies to ensure public protection and enhance Quebecers' real estate literacy.

Profession's ethical and regulatory issues

The IPI conference also addressed the profession's ethical and regulatory issues. Executive Vice-President – Corporate Affairs Claudie Tremblay took part in the panel discussion on “Déontologie et encadrement de la profession: malédiction ou bénédiction?” where she discussed the ethical and regulatory challenges facing real estate brokers. ‘’A strict oversight of professional practices is not only essential to ensure public trust, but also to enrich practices and avoid abuses,” she said.

The event also helped strengthen OACIQ's professional ties with several European stakeholders, paving the way for closer cooperation and sharing of best practices in a context of growing globalization.
