Mandatory basic training: Becoming agency executive officer or acting on your own account

1. Holder of a real estate broker’s licence which I obtained after May 1, 2010, by taking a skills-based examination who wishes to:

Act on his own account

Obtaining the agency executive officer qualification (Certified AEO)

Act as executive officer within an agency


2. A former affiliated real estate agent wishing to:

1. Holder of a real estate broker’s licence which I obtained after May 1, 2010, by taking a skills-based examination who wishes to:

 

Act on his or her own account:

Obtaining the agency executive officer qualification (Certified AEO):

  • The real estate broker must have successfully completed a basic training program for agency executive officer recognized by the OACIQ.  This training program must be recognized in an agreement between the Organization and an educational institution and that deals with the skills an agency executive officer must have, set out in the framework available on the Organization's official website;
  • The real estate broker must pass the agency executive officer examination which lasts 3 ½ hours. This skills-based examination confirms his or her ability to manage an agency;
  • If the real estate broker has taken the agency executive officer examination, but did not successfully complete all competencies:
    • He or she may retake the exam up to three times within 12 months from the date you wrote the initial exam; if he or she fails all these supplemental exams, he or she may not retake the exam until 12 months from the date of the last supplemental exam.
  • The mandatory basic training and the agency executive officer examination are based on the “Agency executive officer” competency framework. Click here to access the complete framework;
  • He or she must have carried on the activity of real estate broker in an agency for at least 3 of the last 5 years;
  • Once these conditions have been met, he or she must complete the form Application for licence modification – Real estate broker and email it along with the applicable fees to [email protected] to add the "Certified AEO" qualification to his or her your licence.

Act as executive officer within an agency:

  • The real estate broker must meet the conditions in the section "Obtaining the agency executive officer qualification (Certified AEO)" above;

  • If he or she has never acted as agency executive officer before

OR

  • If he or she has previously acted as an agency executive officer but not in the past two years:

He she must show that you have completed the courses Applying your compliance program to your everyday operations and The agency executive officer as a compliance officer: Tools for managing everyday activities, within the two years prior to your appointment.

2. A former affiliated real estate agent wishing to :

 

Act on his or her own account: 

The real estate broker must have completed the following continuing education activities over a maximum period of 18 months. In this case, to act on his or her own account, the real estate broker has 12 months after taking the training courses to complete and submit the Application for licence modification – Real estate broker form, including the applicable fees, by email to [email protected]. Otherwise, he or she will have to retake these training courses before being able to act on his or her own account.     

*Note: By completing the basic training and passing the agency executive officer exam, the real estate broker is exempt from taking the courses below. However,he or she must complete the training course Managing trust accounts as soon as he or she is required to open a trust account. Read this article for more details on trust accounts.
